It doesn’t make me dislike the game I wouldn’t give it a bad review because I can’t do what I want with it. I knew going in that it was a different style, but it doesn’t stop me from holding out hope for something else. I get it AoE IV isn’t designed to do what I can do in a Civ, for example. I’ve just aged out of the fast pace.Īnd for sure, ‘explore’ means to just experience all the game offers, whether that’s just uncovering a map or building something new, and using the units in different ways to accomplish those things. So yeah, I’m checking out AoE IV because of my memories of the earlier games (which are fond) to see if it’ll mesh at all. Otherwise, why have it real-time at all other than to speed up gameplay with simultaneous actions.
TBS seems to have managed it well enough, but I suppose the RT aspect doesn’t lend itself well to slow pace.
I left the RTS genre years ago for all the reasons I stated, but I keep hoping that the genre will allow me to use strategy in ways other than conquest.
